Old works, read aloud.

Public-domain books, narrated — with the text on screen, lighting up word by word as it’s read. Listen with your ears and your eyes.

How it reads

The ink follows the voice

Words brighten as they’re spoken, and the current one glows. Set your phone down and glance at it whenever a sentence needs a second look.

Pick up where you left off

Your place is saved as you listen, on every device. Tap any word to jump the narration there.

Ask about any word

Press and hold a word for its meaning as the author used it — archaic senses, allusions, and the jokes that a dictionary misses.

lèse-respectability
noun · An Apology for Idlers, Stevenson

the crime of offending against respectability itself

A mock-legal coinage modelled on French lèse-majesté, the offence of injuring the sovereign’s dignity. Stevenson treats respectability as a reigning monarch, so that declining a lucrative profession becomes a quasi-treason.

How it’s made

The texts come from Project Gutenberg, cleaned for reading aloud. Each is narrated by Leo, an xAI voice, with the timing of every word recorded so the page can follow along.

Definitions are written on request by Claude, which reads the surrounding passage before answering.

A shelf of books that have waited a century to be heard.
